SAN JOSE MINE, Chile, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The first of 33 miners who had been trapped for 10 weeks in a copper mine in northern Chile successfully returned to the surface early Wednesday.

Florencio Avalos, 31, was pulled up to fresh air in a capsule about 10 minutes after midnight local time, after spending 69 days some 700 meters underground. Full story

Second Chilean miner reaches surface

SAN JOSE MINE, Chile, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The second of 33 trapped Chilean miners, being placed in a capsule early Wednesday, reached surface after staying underground for 69 days.

Mario Sepulveda, 39, was rescued about one hour after Florencio Avalos became the first miner to get out of the mine. Full story

Third Chilean miner rescued

Nine trapped Chilean miners rescued to surface

SAN JOSE MINE, Chile, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Nine of the 33 miners who had been trapped for over two months in northern Chile were brought back to the surface on Wednesday.

Florencio Avalos, 31, was the first to reach the surface after spending 69 days of ordeal some 700 meters underground. His family and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera were at the scene to receive him. Full story
